The Dayton/Hamilton area has been experiencing significant rainfall since early Wednesday which is not normal. What was originally predicted to be a small amount quickly accumulated to three inches of rain in a 24 hour period. Thus, the Great Miami River is rising and is nearing our threshold for hosting a safe regatta.
The storm front is expected to move out of the area today. However, if the rain continues, we will be forced to cancel the regatta. We are watching conditions closely using forecast models from the USGS, Doppler radar and our local river authority. The good news is that the prediction for Saturday is 50 degrees and sunny!
In the event of a forced cancellation we will make a “go” or “no go” announcement by 7AM Friday morning so that you and your programs can plan accordingly.
Notices of our decision will be sent via email, posted to our website (
http://www.greatmiamirowing.com/) and by phone. All entry fees will be refunded in the event of a cancellation.
